The full preliminary entry list for the ATP-250 tournament in Geneva, which will take place the week before the French Open (May 19-25), has been announced.
The team is led by two-time champion and world No. 6 Casper Ruud of Norway. Among the Russian players, world No. 86 Aslan Karatsev is planning to participate in the tournament. In addition, Americans Taylor Fritz (world No. 13), Ben Shelton (world No. 14) and Tommy Paul (world No. 16) are expected to play in Switzerland.
Argentina's Sebastián Báez (world No. 19), defending champion Nicolás Jarry (Chile, world No. 24) and 2014 US Open finalist Kei Nishikori, using a protected ranking, will also participate. Pavel Kotov is the 10th alternate and Italy's Matteo Berrettini is the 12th alternate.
“The Geneva Open is always an exciting event, attracting a number of top players ahead of Roland Garros,” said tournament director Thierry Grin. “With Casper Ruud, Aslan Karatsev and several rising American stars, this year’s edition promises to be an exciting showcase of talent.”
Ruud, who reached the 2022 French Open final, will be looking to add another Geneva title to his tally. The Norwegian has become a fixture in the ATP elite over the past two seasons, winning 11 career titles and establishing himself as one of the best clay-court players on the tour.
Karatsev, meanwhile, will be looking to build momentum ahead of the French Open, where he has enjoyed success in the past, reaching the quarter-finals in 2021. The Russian is looking to rediscover his form after a dip in results over the past year.
With the breadth of talent on display, the Geneva Open is shaping up to be a must-attend event for tennis fans heading into the second Grand Slam of the season. Players will be eager to hone their clay court game and position themselves for a strong run at Roland Garros.
“This tournament offers players a great opportunity to practice on clay ahead of the French Open,” added Grin. “We are looking forward to an exciting week of top-level tennis in Geneva.”
